Aids and HIV Stats

 

HIV AIDS Stats Alberta:

  • In the first half of 2008 there were 102 newly diagnosed cases of HIV in Alberta alone.
  • Rate of HIV in the first 6 months of 2008 was 2.94 cases per 100,000.
  • The highest rates of HIV were seen in the Capital region (Edmonton).
  • Males have a higher rate of infection than females.
  • Those in the ages of 30 -39 have the highest rate of infection for HIV.
  • For males the highest infection rate is seen between the ages of 20 and 24.

HIV/AIDS Stats Canada:

  • It was estimated that at the end of 2005 there were 58,000 people in Canada living with HIV/Aids.
  • There were 2,432 newly reported cases in 2007.
