What Is AIDS?
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
HIV is the virus that leads to AIDS.
AIDS = HIV + an opportunistic infection
Opportunistic infections include: tuberculosis, cervical cancer, anal cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, herpes, etc. When the disease progresses and the infected person’s immune system becomes very weak an opportunistic infection is likely and this is when the individual’s condition becomes defined as AIDS.
